Our 2025 Scholarship Winners

As a D1 volleyball player at the University of Minnesota without a first-year athletic scholarship, the Erickson Scholarship from the Rush City Education Foundation will help bridge the gap my freshman year.

McKenna Garr

Nursing, University of Minnesota

I encourage every Rush City senior to apply for an RCEF scholarship. It’s more than just financial help—it’s a gift to your future self and a step toward the life you’ve always dreamed of. My mom always taught me to pay it forward, and pursuing college is my way of honoring her love, sacrifices, and belief in me.

Liam Grodijenko

Sociology/Anthropology, St. Olaf College

History is my passion, so pursuing a degree so I can someday teach history is my dream. I love that it’s a career where you can learn about many other topics as you study the relevant history surrounding the subject. The Proulx Memorial Scholarship from the Rush City Educational Foundation recognizes education as an important career.

Braden Niessen

History Education, University of Wisconsin - Superior

I want to help troubled youth, so I plan to pursue a career in Juvenile Justice at Concordia University in St. Paul, supported by scholarship funds from the RCEF. This award gives me confidence that I can afford college. If you’re unsure about qualifying, don’t hesitate to ask for help with the application.

DaLyla Oberg

Starting my neuroscience journey at the University of Minnesota is exciting — but figuring out how to pay for it is a challenge. Getting the scholarship from the Rush City Education Foundation means so much to me. I’m incredibly thankful to be chosen out of so many amazing students.

Carlos Quito

Neuroscience, University of Minnesota

I grew up surrounded by teachers, yet I hated school—until one amazing teacher changed that. This connection sparked a passion for learning I never knew I had. Thanks to this scholarship, I can study Music Education and Social Sciences at the College of St Scholastica and go on to help kids like me discover their own love for learning.

Maggie Schultz

Music and Social Sciences, College of St. Scholastica

College is expensive, and I want to avoid accumulating significant debt while pursuing my nursing degree. The Rush City Education Foundation scholarship represents meaningful community support by helping ease the financial burden.

Autumn Stream

Nursing, University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire

Becoming an anesthesiologist isn’t a quick trip—it’s a 15-year marathon of schooling and serious commitment. That also means a serious price tag. The Biese Scholarship from the Rush City Education Foundation is helping me take that first step without tripping over the cost.

Megan Vacinek

Nursing, Winona State University

I hope to fully engage in the college experience by participating in activities like pep band and theater. The RCEF Scholarship makes this possible by relieving financial pressure and eliminating the need to work during school. For anyone uncertain about applying, I’d say one day of effort can lead to a lifetime of opportunity.

Ruth Widenstrom

History, University of Minnesota - Duluth
